Fort St John RCMP responded to call about potential robbery at the Motel 6 on Friday afternoon, in the area of 99A Avenue and 100th Street.
Police said the report involved a female victim and three male suspects, all with handguns.
A large police presence converged on the scene and attempted callouts to the room that the three male suspects were reportedly hiding in.
After a period of time, three males exited the building and were taken into police custody.
“The public would have noticed a significant police presence with guns drawn as part of the response to the initial report,” said Constable Chad Neustaeter, Media Relations Officer for the Fort St John RCMP.
Mounties were able to determine that the alleged robbery did not occur and the complainant had received third party information, that had been highly exaggerated. Police added, the file was then deemed unfounded.
“Police have to respond according to the report received but once all information is gathered, can also change course, as in this investigation,” said Neustaeter.
All three males were released on scene and police cleared the area.
