Police have released more information about a collision between two semi-trucks on the Alaska Highway, that claimed the lives of both drivers.
Mounties say a 74-year-old man and a 21-year-old male, both from Alberta, died in the head-on collision. The names of the drivers are being withheld at this time.
It happened on Monday afternoon north of Pink Mountain. The RCMP told CJDC-TV News one of the drivers died at the scene, while the other driver later died from his injuries.
Mounties said a passenger was rushed to the North Peace Airport then was airlifted to hospital in Vancouver. Police did not release information about the extent of his injuries.
The crash shut down the Alaska Highway for most of the day Monday, and it remained closed overnight.
Mounties said that poor road conditions, blowing snow and limited visibility were contributing factors in the collision.
“The road conditions on the Alaska Highway between Fort St John and Fort Nelson are very poor and any unnecessary travel is not advised,” Cpl Andrew McElwain of the Fort St John RCMP.
