The Pocket Knife Creek wildfire is now under control, according the BC Wildfire Service. The final area restriction was lifted on Saturday.

On June 17th the wildfire was listed as being held, not long after the region received about 100 millimeters of rain.

The fire, located about 150 kilometers north of Fort St. John, grew to over 150,000 hectares in size. The fire closed the Alaska Highway a number of times near Buckinghorse River.

BC Wildfire says even if the Area Restriction has been rescinded, officials still have the authority under the Wildfire Act to order anyone to leave the area.

According to the wildfire service, lighting was the suspected cause of the fire. High winds helped the blaze explode in size, not long after being discovered on May 19.

BC Wildfire says there is currently 82 active wildfires across the province. There is currently one ‘wildfire of note’ in BC. The Izman Creek wildfire was discovered on July 1st near Lytton.
