The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) has approved $950,000 for repairs to the roof of the North Peace Leisure Pool in Fort St. John.

The regional district says most of the money will go towards the repairs. In 2024, an inspection showed that the roof membrane needed to be replaced in three areas of the facility.

At first, the PRRD approved a budget of $750,000, including $148,000 for contingency plans. Due to rising construction costs, a submission from DM Henderson Roofing then showed a quote of $833,250, including the contingency.

The regional district board decided it was appropriate to go over budget to get the work done.

The PRRD says the rest of the funds will go towards smaller projects, including replacing a fire alarm panel and the heating system in the steam room, remodeling the front counter and renovating the change rooms and washrooms.

The regional district has not provided a timeline for the construction to wrap up.
