Peace River RCMP are investigating online threats connected to schools in the community after a social media video resurfaced earlier this week.
Police say they were notified on May 6 of a reposted TikTok video that had circulated for roughly two days.
Captions associated with the video suggested Peace River could be “next,” though the owner of the account remains unknown.
According to RCMP, officers have been actively investigating the threats and are working closely with local schools.
Police say they have been reviewing lockdown procedures and taking steps to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the public.
At this time, RCMP say there is no indication of an imminent threat to a specific location.
Officers continue to monitor social media, patrol areas around schools, and follow up on any information or leads that come in.
In light of the recent Tumbler Ridge mass shooting, Mounties acknowledge the stress these types of incidents can cause and say decisions around school attendance are up to parents, who should do what they feel is safest for their families.
RCMP say schools, parents, and the public will be updated should the situation change.
