There was some relief at the pumps for drivers across the Peace Region as a pause on the federal government’s gas tax took effect Monday.
Motorists in Dawson Creek were able to fuel up for $1.73.9 per litre—a drop of 10 cents from what many stations were charging Friday.
Prices in Fort St. John range from $1.56.9 to $1.68.9 per litre on Monday.
Officials have said the suspension of Canada’s fuel excise tax would likely save 10 cents per litre on regular gas and four cents per litre on diesel, amid surging global energy costs triggered by the U.S. and Israel’s war on Iran.
The pause is scheduled to remain in effect until Labour Day.
