Athletes from across Northeast B.C. are in Kelowna this week as the 2026 BC Summer Games are officially underway.
More than 3,000 athletes from around the province are competing in 19 sports at the Games, which run from July 22 to 26.
Organizers say competition resumed on normal schedules Friday after wildfire smoke-related air quality concerns, temporarily delayed some outdoor events on Thursday.
The Peace Region is represented by athletes and coaches from Fort St. John, Dawson Creek and Charlie Lake, competing in sports ranging from athletics and swimming to golf, rugby and volleyball.
Among the local competitors are Dawson Creek volleyball players Tristyn Clease and Haylie Hicks, who are representing Zone 8 in female volleyball. They are joined by adult supervisor Erin Clease, helping guide the team during competition.
Fort St. John athlete Kiptyn Harvey is competing in golf, while several other regional athletes are taking part in athletics, lacrosse, swimming and rugby events throughout the week.
The Games opened with a ceremony attended by roughly 5,000 people and feature athletes from every region of British Columbia.
Competition continues through Sunday, with medals up for grabs in a variety of sports.
