Out of control wildfire burning near Salteau First Nations grows

BC Wildfire Service recruits fighting fire at boot camp in Merritt, B.C. (CTV News)

An out of control wildfire burning northeast of Moberly Lake has grown to 8 hectares in size, according to the BC Wildfire Service

The fire was discovered on Thursday just over 2 kilometers from the Salteau First Nation Band Office.

According to the Wildfire Service, the fire is anticipated to spread beyond the current perimeter.

The fire is thought to be human caused. The Wildfire Service said that suppression actions are being taken to limit the spread of the blaze.

There are currently no area restrictions in place. The fire is burning just east of a wildfire that was discovered on April 25th. That 5.5-hectare fire is currently listed as being ‘under control.’

There are currently four wildfires burning across Northeast BC, three of which are listed as ‘under control.’
