FORT NELSON, B.C. - The Northern Rockies Regional Airport is looking for community volunteers to take part in a full-scale emergency exercise scheduled for September.
The exercise, set for Tuesday, September. 22, 2026, is a Transport Canada requirement that airports must conduct every four years to test emergency response procedures and coordination among local agencies.
According to information distributed by the airport, the large-scale training event will involve airport staff, Fire Rescue, RCMP, BC Ambulance Service, the Municipality and the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality Emergency Operations Centre.
Organizers are seeking approximately 16 volunteers, or more, to help simulate a variety of emergency scenarios. Participants will play the roles of plane crash victims with different injury levels, as well as friends and family members in the airport terminal.
The exercise is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., followed by a debrief session at noon at the terminal building. Lunch will be provided for volunteers.
Airport officials say the exercise is intended to strengthen emergency preparedness and provide local responders with an opportunity to practise a coordinated response to a major incident.
