The BC Centre for Disease Control has confirmed one new case of measles across the province.

The latest case comes from the Northern Health region, raising its total to 143, with one case still considered.

Despite the new case, the province’s overall total remains at 197 after the BC CDC removed one case from the Interior Health region’s count.

The BC CDC noted that 88 percent of confirmed cases involved people who were not vaccinated against the virus.

Medical experts say the best way to protect yourself after exposure to measles is to get vaccinated with the MMR vaccine. You can contact your local health unit to schedule a vaccination appointment.
