The BC Centre for Disease Control has confirmed three new cases of measles across the province, rising the total to 242 cases.

Health officials said all new cases are coming from the Northern Health region, increasing the total there to 175. There also are 4 confirmed active cases in the region.

The BC CDC said 86 percent of cases were found in people who were not immunized against the virus.

Medical experts say the best way to protect yourself after exposure to measles is to get vaccinated with the MMR vaccine. You can contact your local health unit to schedule a vaccination appointment.
