A school in Northeast B.C. is set to benefit from new provincial funding aimed at improving student health and well-being through safer, more inclusive playgrounds.
The B.C. government has announced a $5‑million investment to help build new school playgrounds and upgrade aging equipment across the province.
As part of the program, Clearview Elementary–Junior Secondary School in Goodlow will receive $200,000 for a new or improved playground.
In total, 25 school communities across British Columbia will each receive $200,000, with funding focused on creating accessible play spaces that encourage physical activity during the school day .
The province says playgrounds play an important role in supporting children’s physical, social, and emotional development, while giving students more opportunities to be active and engaged outdoors.
Premier David Eby said every child deserves a safe and accessible place to play, describing playgrounds as “outdoor classrooms” that help children build valuable life skills such as creativity and confidence .
According to the province, more than $50 million has been invested in school playgrounds since 2018, benefiting tens of thousands of students provincewide. Every school district in B.C. has received at least one playground through the program 7.
Construction timelines for individual projects will be determined by school districts and communities.
