Officials with the Northeast B.C. Immigration project said they have recently been made aware of individuals operating in our communities, who are offering cash incentives to businesses, in exchange for hiring foreign nationals from outside of Canada.

“We want to make it very clear: these practices are not legal. There are significant and regulated processes that must be followed to bring foreign workers into the country. Attempting to bypass these processes places both employers and workers at serious risk of legal and financial consequences,” said Community Futures Peace Liard in a statement.

All businesses and community members are being advized to to exercise caution.

“It has also come to our attention that these individuals are misrepresenting themselves as being associated with the NEBC Immigration project. This is false. The NEBC Immigration project does not, and will not, engage or promote the services of any immigration or recruitment consultants,” the statement continued.

If approached by individuals offering recruitment services under the name of NEBC Immigration, the public is being asked to decline and report the interaction to the appropriate authorities.
