Northern Health says the Department of Obstetrics at the University of Northern BC (UHNBC) in Prince George, will not experience a shortage of specialists in August and September.

“Thanks to ongoing efforts by dedicated providers in the UHNBC Obstetrics/Genecology group and locum specialists, all potential on-call coverage gaps in August and September have been filled, and patients will continue to have access to safe, high-quality maternity care at UHNBC’s Labour and Delivery (Maternity) unit,” said Northern Health.

UHNBC is the only large medical center for obstetrics in all of Northern BC. Women living in the Peace Region, who experience complications with their pregnancies, have to travel to Prince George for care.

Last week health officials said that pregnant women encountering complications during pregnancy and delivery, may need to transfer to another healthcare facility to ensure the safety of them and their baby.
