DAWSON CREEK, B.C. - The Northern Lights College Foundation is celebrating its most successful year yet at the Dawson Creek Exhibition and Stampede, raising a record amount through its annual 50/50 draw and Mega Lottery.

According to the Foundation, this year’s jackpot reached $174,425, with proceeds split evenly between the Foundation and prize winners. The Saturday 50/50 winner took home $26,280, while Sunday’s Mega Lottery winner received $22,145. All prizes have now been claimed.

The money raised will go toward supporting students across the college’s service region.

Kayla Von Bargen, Development Officer for the NLC Foundation, said community support helped make the fundraiser a record-setting success.

“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who supported the NLC Foundation at this year’s Dawson Creek Exhibition,” said Von Bargen. “This was our strongest year yet, with record sales and our biggest jackpots to date. We’re so fortunate to be part of the Greatest Show in the Peace and to have the opportunity to connect with our community throughout the week.”

Foundation Supports Local Food Banks

In addition to its fundraising efforts, the Foundation also participated in the annual Race Against Hunger event at the Dawson Creek Co-op.

The Foundation’s team, dubbed “Scrubs & Scholarships,” earned bronze in the competition. The team included Foundation Executive Director Lindsey Borek, board members Aaron Powell and Kathleen Connolly, and Board Chair Lisa Ward.

Through the initiative, the Foundation donated food as well as $500 each to Networks Ministries, St. Mark’s, and the Pouce Coupe Food Bank to help support local families and students.

Borek said participating in regional initiatives is an important part of the college’s commitment to the communities it serves.

“Whether we’re raising funds for students through the Exhibition or coming together to support local families through the Race Against Hunger, these initiatives demonstrate what we can accomplish when organizations work together,” said Borek. “We are proud to contribute to the Peace Region and deeply grateful to the businesses, organizations and community members who continue to stand behind our students and our communities.”

The Foundation says the success of both initiatives reflects the strong community support it receives throughout the Peace Region and will help fund future opportunities for students while supporting local charitable organizations.
