City councillors and some business owners in Fort St. John are praising the work of the RCMP over the past year.
Members of the Council’s Response Committee on Housing and Emergency Shelter toured the city, talking to business owners about public safety.
The goal was to gather updated information on the impacts of crime, shoplifting and mischief. They were looking to assess how these issues have changed over time.
With property crime in Fort St. John down over the past year, many business owners say there’s been a noticeable improvement.
“The message from a large majority of the same managers and owners we met with a year ago was certainly a positive one today,” said the CRCHES committee.
“Issues around theft and loitering are down, response times from the RCMP and Bylaw are quicker and more efficient,” Walmart commented. ‘It’s a night and day difference between last year and this year.’
The group was created to better understand and respond to the impacts of homelessness in Fort St. John.
