BC Transit has announced new digital technology coming to public transit Dawson Creek and Fort St. John.
Bus riders will be able to use contactless tap validation on buses starting on September 1st, when using the BC Bus Pass.
“The modernization of the BC Bus Pass validation process aims to create a universal rider experience,” said BC Transit.
Before this change, riders had to show their pass to the transit driver for visual validation.

The new validation system will be available on buses that uses Umo digital payments. BC Transit said it will help them deliver better transit services with an improved understanding of BC Bus Pass usage.
BC transit is currently working to enable debit, credit, and mobile wallet payments for all users.
Bus passes are offered at a lower cost for residents receiving disability assistance and for low-income seniors, helping them participate in their community.
