The Dawson Creek Fire Hall is welcoming a new fire truck designed for rural firefighting operations.

A “push-in” ceremony was held on Friday, where firefighter pushed the new truck into the hall for the first time. The ceremony is a tradition symbolizing the truck officially entering service

The all-wheel-drive unit will allow crews to safely reach harder-to-access areas outside city limits.

“Residents outside of city boundaries deserve reliable, modern emergency response,” said Leonard Hiebert, Vice Chair of the PRRD.

The truck was purchased by the PRRD, with Hiebert saying the investment reflects the district’s commitment to protecting rural residents.

Firefighters have also completed training to ensure they are fully prepared to operate the new equipment.

“Our partnership with the Peace River Regional District is critical to keeping residents safe, both in the city and throughout rural areas,” said Dawson Creek Mayor Darcy Dober.
