A new drop-in clinic is coming to Fort St. John to help those with low incomes. The Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society (FSJ WRS) is launching the new program Tuesday, offering free medical care to households earning $42,000 or less, plus $2,000 per child.
The FSJ WRS says the clinic offers non-urgent medical care, health advice, and treatment for minor illnesses and injuries. It also offers women’s health services, like birth control management, Pap test, pregnancy options, and prenatal care.
They say the program will be offered every Tuesday going forward, and it will take place at The Healing Place Building in Fort St. John. The services will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so no appointments are needed.
A Nurse Practitioner from Northern Health’s Primary Carew Clinic is leading the program.
The FSJ WRS HAS partnered with Northern Health, the North Peace Division of Family Practice, and the North Peace Primary Care Network. The FSJ WRS says this is the first initiative of its kind in Northern BC.
