According to ADP Canada’s Happiness@Work Index, BC workers are ranking first nationally for workplace happiness.

Work-life balance and flexibility are among the strongest contributors to workers’ satisfaction.

However, new Data from ADP suggests that taking time-off from work is coming at a cost in BC.

Workers who took a one-week vacation say they paid an average of 16.9 extra hours in time-off tax.

That means workers had to work close to 17 hours of overtime on average, before and after taking time away, just to prepare and catch up.

Data is also showing that only 32 percent of Canadians reported taking all their vacation time in 2025.

“It’s a clear reminder that while resting is essential, the process of taking time away can still feel demanding,” said Heater Haslam, the vice-president of marketing at ADP Canada.
