Nolan Douglas Schmidt has been charged with second degree murder in connection with a shooting in the city on Sunday. One other person remains in hospital with injuries.
RCMP said, “This was not a random attack and those involved are known to each other.”
Investigators are also looking at other ongoing investigations within the Dawson Creek area and progress continues to be made.
On Monday, CJDC TV News reported that Schmidt allegedly killed Johnny (Joel) Freeman Sunday night. Sources say Freeman was confronted in an apartment in the 1000 block of 102nd Avenue before he was killed.
Then on Wednesday, CJDC TV News identified Schmidt as a person of interest in the case.
It is believed that Schmidt is also the main suspect in a seperate shooting, a block away at a hotel in Dawson Creek that same night.
It happened at the Mile Zero Hotel and sent one man to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
“We appreciate the support of the community and will continue to welcome any information,” said Corporal Madonna Saunderson with the RCMP North District Communication Services.
Schmidt remains in custody pending the results of a court hearing today.
“The surge of resources that supported the investigation contributed to an arrest and subsequent charge approval. Additional charges may be possible if supported by further evidence as the investigation moves forward,” said Superintendent Sanjaya Wijayakoon of E Division Major Crime.
Anyone who has any information that has yet to speak with police is asked to call the Dawson Creek RCMP at (250) 784-3700.
