An RCMP officer is facing charges following an alleged assault in Valleyview, Alta., in 2023.
In a news release, Alberta’s Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) said it was directed to investigate an incident involving a Valleyview RCMP officer that occurred on Nov. 10, 2023.
ASIRT did not provide details on the assault.
Const. Ovidiu Haynes was arrested on Wednesday and has been charged with assault with a weapon. He has since been released with conditions and is to appear in court on Aug. 26.
CTV News Edmonton has reached out to RCMP to determine the status of the officer’s employment.
Valleyview is about 240 kilometres southeast of Dawson Creek.
