MISSING: Police looking for hunter missing near Chetwynd

Chetwynd — On Friday shortly before 11:00 pm, Fort St John RCMP received a report of a missing person. An initial investigation led Mounties to believe that the individual may be grouse hunting in the Chetwynd area.

James Joseph Edmund Barnes had gone hunting in his grey Chev pickup with his dog Murphy, a golden retriever. He was reported missing to Fort St John RCMP on Friday when he failed to return home.

Investigators have learned that on Friday, between 11:00 - 11:30 am, James was seen with his vehicle and his dog on the Ground Birch Road off the 269 Road.

The vehicle, a 2004 Chev pickup, BC license LJ1 O79, has been located, however, James and the dog were not with the vehicle.

Search and Rescue have been engaged however all efforts to locate James have been unsuccessful. Police look to the public to help further the investigation.

James Joseph Edmund Barnes is described as

- Caucasian male

- 28 years old

- 5’ 11” (180 cm)

- 201 lbs (91 kg)

- Brown Hair, Brown eyes

- Big mustache

- Last seen wearing a green/blue T.C Energy ball cap, green or blue hoodie and      jeans.

If you have any information as to where James may be, saw the vehicle he was driving, were in the area of 269 Road and Ground Birch Road, have dash cam video or have seen his dog “Murphy”, you are asked to call the Chetwynd RCMP at 250-788-9221
