Military helicopters to be seen over the Peace Region during training

Residents across the Peace Region may notice military helicopters in the sky next week.

According to National Defence, six Royal Canadian Air Force helicopters are set to participate in Exercise STRIKING BAT from January 26 to 28.

The CH-146 Griffon helicopters will fly from Edmonton to Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

The flyover is part of a large-scale, multinational combat training exercise designed to prepare military forces for operations in Arctic and sub-Arctic environments.

The month-long exercise will take place at the Joint Pacific Multinational Readiness Center in Alaska.

“Flight activities may generate unfamiliar noise and attract the attention of local residents,” National Defence said, adding the flights are closely monitored to ensure public safety.
