The Dawson Creek and District Hospital interrupted services in its maternity ward for a period of 19 hours.

Northern Health says the temporary closure was due to a staffing shortage. Maternity services were interrupted between 1 pm Wednesday and 8 am Thursday morning.

During that time, the health authority says the Fort St. John Birthing Centre was prepared to receive patients from Dawson Creek who needed care.

“Patients were notified about the service interruption at the Dawson Creek and District Hospital and provided with information about what they should do, should they need care,” Northern Health said.

Patients needing urgent care could also be seen at the Dawson Creek and District Hospital’s emergency department.
