Man with ties to the on-going drug war in Dawson Creek has died in jail

A Dawson creek man with ties to organized crime had died in a Prince George jail. Tyler Calliou passed away on Saturday at the Prince George Remand Centre.

Privacy laws prevent BC Corrections from confirming whether a particular individual is or was in custody or under community supervision.

BC Corrections did however confirm the death of an individual on May 17, 2025, who had been in custody at Prince George Correctional Centre.

“Any death in custody is a tragedy and our thoughts and condolences are with this individual’s loved ones at this time” said the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General.

Calliou was in jail after being arrested in Kelly Lake at the end of March. He and another suspect allegedly stole a truck in Beaverlodge.

Calliou fled police after officers attempted to arrest him in Kelly Lake. A search of the truck turned up a 12-gauge shot gun, body armour, night vision googles and a crossbow.

Calliou has a violent criminal history with ties to the on-going drug war in Dawson Creek. A cause of death has not been reported.

BC Corrections and the BC Coroners Service are investigating. The BC Coroners Service said there investigation is independent and will look to determine how, where, when and by what means the individual came to their death. For its part, BC Corrections will conduct a review into the circumstances.
