The man found guilty of a 2019 Kelly Lake murder has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 10 years.
In Dawson Creek Supreme Court on Friday, Justice Church sentenced Morgan Lambert-Bouma for the killing of 54-year-old Owen Cardinal. The murder took place at a home in August of 2019, south of Dawson Creek.
Justice Church ordered Lambert-Bouma not to have any contact with the family of the deceased or any of the witnesses in the case. He is also prohibited from possessing firearms for life and was ordered to submit a DNA sample.
On August 16,th 2019 Lambert-Bouma called 911 to report that he had murdered someone. When police arrived at the home, they found Cardinal fatally injured.
“Upon arrival, police located a 54-year-old man who was fatally wounded. A 24-year-old man was arrested at the scene without incident,” said RCMP Corporal Madonna Saunderson said in a statement in August 2019
Both men were known to each other, according on the RCMP. Lambert-Bouma was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder.
Originally the judge ruled that Lambert-Bouma was not fit to stand trial because he was having episodes of delusions and psychosis. However after a psychiatric evaluation, the Justice ruled that Lambert-Bouma was mentally fit to stand trial.
