A man has been fined $7,000 and banned from hunting for three years after illegally killing a moose in northeastern British Columbia.
The Conservation Officer Service says the man pleaded guilty to hunting a moose outside of the designated open season. The animal was killed in September 2022, in an area south of Fort Nelson.
Officials say the man also admitted to failing to report the kill within the required timeframe, which is typically expected by the following day.
The case began after complaints were filed through a provincial hotline, reporting a partially recovered moose carcass. That tip ultimately led to an investigation and the charges being laid.
The Conservation Officer Service says the outcome highlights the importance of reporting suspected poaching and following provincial hunting regulations designed to protect wildlife populations.
