Man charged in Dawson Creek murder, faces more charges in connection with nearby shooting

A Dawson Creek man who has been charged with second degree murder, is now facing more charges.

Nolan Schmidt was arrested and charged, after Joel Freeman was shot and killed in the 1000 block of 102nd Avenue on January 19th.

CJDC TV News has reported, that moments after Freeman was killed, Schmidt then allegedly went to the Mile Zero Apartments Hotel, a block away and shot Brandon Badger, in the one of the rooms on the third floor.

The BC Prosecution Service has now approved charges in the shooting that sent Badger to hospital in Edmonton.

Schmidt has been charged with aggravated assault and discharging a firearm with intent. A 20-year-old woman and her 16-year old sister were in the room at the time of the alleged shooting.

Schmidt remains in custody pending his next court appearance which is scheduled for February 25th.
