FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. - A man is facing a firearms charge after an exchange of gunfire in a Fort St. John residential neighbourhood that left one person injured and damaged several properties, according to police.
Fort St. John RCMP say officers were called to the area of 112th Avenue and 108th Street just before 9 p.m. on July 22 following reports of multiple shots fired.
Witnesses told investigators that a black sedan and a pedestrian exchanged gunfire before the vehicle fled the scene.
Police say a man believed to be the pedestrian was later found suffering from a gunshot wound and was taken to hospital for treatment.
He was subsequently arrested and later released from hospital into RCMP custody.
RCMP have identified the accused as Tyrone McGee, who is facing one count of reckless discharge of a firearm and remains in custody.
Investigators say five homes and one vehicle were struck by gunfire during the incident.
“Officers worked hard through the night to be able to support charges against Tyrone McGee and garner additional leads because of the cooperation with the residents of the neighbourhood,” said Sgt Ian Rissanen, plain clothes commander with the Fort St. John RCMP.
Rissanen said investigators collected a significant amount of evidence from the scene and believe it is only a matter of time before they identify and locate the occupants of the suspect vehicle.
Police are now asking for the public’s help in locating a black 2016 Subaru Legacy with B.C. licence plate A029WA.
Anyone who sees the vehicle is asked not to approach it and instead contact police immediately.
RCMP continue to describe the shooting as a targeted incident.
