DAWSON CREEK, B.C. - Dawson Creek’s youngest voters have chosen their leader.

After ballots were cast at the City’s first-ever Kids Voting Station during the 2026 municipal election, Kinny the Bear has been elected Dawson Creek’s inaugural Critter Mayor.

The initiative gave children an opportunity to learn about the voting process while accompanying parents and guardians to the polls. Young voters were asked to choose between three Critter Mayor candidates: Milo the Moose, Kinny the Bear, and Alaska the Fox.

A total of 209 votes were cast through advance voting opportunities and on General Voting Day at the Ovintiv Events Centre.

Known as the “Fun & Parks Mayor,” Kinny campaigned on a platform of more playgrounds and parks, a love of sports and recreation, and the belief that every child deserves fun places to play.

The Kids Voting Station was introduced as a way to make civic engagement fun and accessible while helping children understand the importance of participating in the democratic process.

While Dawson Creek residents elected their municipal leaders this fall, the community’s youngest residents were able to take part in an election of their own, ultimately giving Kinny the Bear the keys to Critter City as Dawson Creek’s first Critter Mayor.
