DAWSON CREEK, B.C. - While adults head to the polls this fall, young Dawson Creek residents will have a chance to cast a ballot of their own.
The City of Dawson Creek is once again inviting children to take part in a special Kids Voting Station during the 2026 municipal election, giving the next generation a fun introduction to democracy.
The kid-friendly voting experience will allow children to choose their favourite Dawson Creek Critter Mayor, with candidates including Milo the Moose, Kinny the Bear, and Alaska the Fox.
Along the way, children can learn how voting works and why community participation matters.
Parents can bring their children to the Kids Voting Station while they cast their own ballots. Every young voter will also receive a Kids Voting sticker for taking part.
Advance voting will be held on October 7 and October 14, with General Voting Day set for October 17 in the upper lobby of the Ovintiv Events Centre.
Organizers say the goal is to make civic engagement fun and accessible while encouraging families to talk about the importance of voting.
And while the real mayoral race will be decided by eligible voters, children will have an election of their own to settle an important question: Which critter deserves the keys to Critter City?
Whether it’s Team Moose, Team Bear or Team Fox, every vote will count.
