The MLA for Peace River North is criticizing the province’s decision to rename the Site C dam after former premier John Horgan.
Jordan Kealy says Horgan was one of the project’s strongest critics before becoming premier in 2017.
Horgan served as the NDP’s energy critic from 2011 to 2014, before later leading the party into government.
But after becoming premier, his government chose to continue the Site C project.
Kealy says Horgan had little choice at that point, arguing the project was already too far gone financially to stop.

Kealy is also calling the renaming “insulting” to what Horgan believed in, and says it makes the NDP appear more pro-resource.
He adds the move serves as a distraction from other issues the province is dealing with.
Instead, Kealy says the decision should have involved taxpayers, since they ultimately paid for the project.
The massive dam on the Peace River is now known as the John Horgan Dam and Generating Station.
Construction began in 2015, with all six generating units entering service in August 2025.
BC Hydro says the dam is expected to provide clean electricity for about 500,000 homes annually and will play a key role in meeting growing demand across the province.
