An injured dirt biker was rescued near the Kiskatinaw River Saturday evening after falling on a trail in a remote area of the South Peace Region.
South Peace Search and Rescue was called out around 7:15 p.m. to assist BC Emergency Health Services after a rider reportedly fell while riding along a trail in the area, suffering what were described as non-life-threatening injuries, including a broken leg.
Search and rescue crews located the rider along a ridge and worked alongside paramedics to safely access the area and bring the individual out to a waiting ambulance.
BC Emergency Health Services personnel provided medical care on scene while SAR members helped transport the patient from the trail system to the ambulance, ensuring they could receive further treatment as quickly as possible.
Officials say the incident highlights the importance of being prepared in the backcountry, especially as outdoor recreation activity increases this time of year.
They are reminding riders and other backcountry users to carry communication devices and GPS locators, travel with others when possible, and make sure someone knows their plans before heading out.
Search and rescue crews also credited the coordinated response between emergency services, noting teamwork and quick action helped ensure the injured rider received timely care.
The rider’s current condition has not been released.
