The Fort St. John Huskies and Dawson Creek Kodiaks are both in the win column after each picked up their first victories of the 2026-27 North West Junior Hockey League season over the weekend.

Fort St. John entered a weekend set against the Slave Lake Wolves still searching for its first win after a challenging start to the year.

The Huskies came close on Saturday, falling 7-6 in a shootout to the Wolves. Despite the loss, Fort St. John earned a point and carried momentum into Sunday’s rematch.

On Sunday the Huskies broke through, defeating Slave Lake 8-3 to earn their first win of the season and put an end to their early-season skid.

The Dawson Creek Kodiaks were also looking for their first victory after opening the campaign with a pair of losses to the defending champion La Crete Lumber Barons.

On Sunday , the Kodiaks responded with a 5-3 win over the Blades in Beaverlodge, giving Dawson Creek its first two points of the season and providing a boost for the team looking to bounce back from a difficult opening weekend.

The victories mean both Peace Region clubs have now registered their first wins of the season after entering the weekend at the bottom of the NWJHL’s Northern Division standings.

Following Sunday’s games, the Huskies improved to 1-3-1, while the Kodiaks moved to 1-2-0.

The two clubs will look to build on their first victories when they return to NWJHL action next weekend. On Friday, Fort St. John plays host to Fairview while the Kodiaks welcome La Crete to town.
