Hundreds of people gathering in Dawson Creek Monday for a candlelight vigil to honour the victims of last week’s mass shooting.

People came from all across the Peace Region, including from Tumbler Ridge to show support for the community.

During his speech, the Mayor of Dawson Creek said, “our hearts are breaking for our neighbours in Tumbler Ridge. We carry questions that we may never have answers and grief that will always be part of us in some way.

Mayor Dober added that kindness and love remain the greatest force in the world.

A moment of silence was observed for the victims that lost their lives last Tuesday.

Speeches, poems and a song was performed during the evening that saw freezing cold temperatures and snow.

One person said they’ve been crying for a week. Another person added that the vigil gave them a chance to be around others for support.

A vigil is planned in Fort St. John Tuesday night. It gets underway at 7 pm at Festival Plaza.
