FORT ST. JOHN, B.C - Human remains discovered along the Peace River near Old Fort have been identified as those of Raymond Chalifoux, a Fort St. John man who was reported missing more than 11 years ago.
According to the Fort St. John RCMP, Chalifoux was reported missing on May 25, 2015, after leaving Fort St. John Hospital against the advice of medical staff.
Police launched an extensive search and missing person investigation at the time, but his whereabouts remained unknown.
On June 8, 2026, human remains were located along the Peace River near the community of Old Fort.

RCMP officers, the BC Coroners Service, and specialized investigative resources attended the scene and conducted an examination.
Police say the remains were positively identified as those of Chalifoux on October 19 following forensic analysis and investigation by the BC Coroners Service.
“While this is not the outcome anyone hoped for, being able to identify Mr. Chalifoux and provide answers after more than 11 years brings some closure to a long-standing missing person investigation,” said Sgt. Ian Rissanen of the Fort St. John RCMP Serious Crimes Unit.
Investigators say they do not currently have any reason to believe Chalifoux’s death was the result of foul play.
RCMP said no further details are available at this time, though additional information may be released as the investigation continues.
