Hudson’s Hope to shut off water while crews investigate ‘significant leak’

The District of Hudson’s Hope says it is investigating “a significant water leak” affecting the town’s water system.

District officials say the leak has resulted in the loss of up to 25 per cent of treated water each day.

Staff will need to shut off water to find the leak. As a result, different parts of Hudson’s Hope will be without water for short periods of time.

“This let’s staff separate sections of the system and narrow down where the leak is coming from,” officials said.

The district adds each shutoff could last up to four hours, and the work is expected to begin between April 28 and May 1.

The district will also issue a precautionary Boil Water Notice, in case parts of the water system loses pressure during the work. The advisory informs residents to boil water before using it to neutralize potential pathogens.

“After water service is turned back on, district staff will flush the water lines and take water samples to confirm the drinking water is still safe.,” officials said. “Once the district receives confirmation that the water is safe to drink, the Boil Water Notice will be removed.”

Officials say residents will be notified of a shutdown in advance. Updates will be shared through different streams, including the district’s Facebook page and its website.

“The district is also asking everyone to save water where possible,” officials said, adding the Water Treatment Plant is running close to its maximum capacity.

Residents are also asked to help find the leak by reporting any signs of a problem. If you notice water pooling, unusually wet areas, or lower water pressure, please call the District Office at 250-783-9901.
