HUDSON’S HOPE, B.C. - Residents connected to Hudson’s Hope’s municipal water system can once again use tap water without boiling it first after the District lifted its precautionary boil water notice.
The notice had been in place since September 15 while the District transitioned from a temporary clarifier to a new permanent Veolia Actiflo clarifier at its water treatment plant and completed required water quality testing.
District officials say confirmatory water quality sampling results were satisfactory and Northern Health approved rescinding the notice.
Residents can now resume normal use of municipal tap water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice and beverages, washing fruits and vegetables, and preparing infant formula and baby food.
The precautionary notice was issued in September as crews moved from temporary treatment equipment to the newly installed permanent clarifier, a key part of the community’s ongoing water treatment plant upgrade.
At the time, the District said additional monitoring and review by Northern Health would be required before the advisory could be lifted.
The project is part of Hudson’s Hope’s long-term effort to improve drinking water reliability and address water quality challenges that emerged after changes to the community’s water supply in recent years.
Previous upgrades have included new intake infrastructure, a permanent pumping system and the installation of a District-owned clarifier designed to provide long-term surface water treatment.
While the boil water notice has now ended, the District says routine monitoring will continue as commissioning work and remaining upgrades at the water treatment plant move forward.
Officials also thanked residents for their patience and cooperation throughout the precautionary notice period.
