In what is becoming a daily occurrence in Hudson’s Hope, the Emergency Department at the Health Centre is on diversion for the fifth straight day.
The health authority has promised residents every day since last Thursday, that services would be restored the following day.
Instead of re-opening, the health authority has updated its new Emergency Department Status webpage on a daily basis to indicate the Health Centre will re-open the following day.
Northern Health now says the Health Centre will re-open next Monday at 8:30am.
The community of Hudson’s Hope has been significantly impacted recently by Northern Health’s failure to solve a doctor and nursing shortage.
The health authority has said the diversions at Health Centre are a result of an on-going staffing shortage. Northern Health’s inability to attract enough new healthcare workers has plagued the region for the past five years.
The health authority no longer will say whether a shortage of nurses or doctors is to blame for the increasing number of diversions that are affecting the community in 2026.
CJDC TV News reached out to Northern Health to ask if residents can trust the health authority’s promise to re-open on Monday. We have not heard back from Northern Health.
The Emergency Department has been closed for a total of 18 days since mid-February.
