Hudson’s Hope ER on diversion Friday as staffing shortages continue; new hire expected this summer

The emergency department at Northern Health’s Hudson’s Hope Health Centre is closed Friday due to staffing shortages.

Northern Health says the closure is temporary and tied to staffing availability. The site is normally closed on weekends as part of its regular operating hours, and emergency services are expected to reopen Monday at 8:30 a.m.

The health authority says the community is currently served by one part-time physician, with recruitment ongoing for a second family physician.

Northern Health also confirms it has recruited an International Medical Graduate candidate who is now moving through the process and is expected to arrive this summer.

Despite today’s closure being temporary, the emergency department has been on diversion for 44 of the last 91 days due to staffing challenges.
