HUDSON’S HOPE, B.C. - The emergency department at Hudson’s Hope Health Centre is temporarily closed due to ongoing staffing shortages, according to Northern Health.
The health authority says the closure is tied to physician staffing availability and emergency services are not expected to resume until Tuesday, Aug. 4 at 8:30 a.m.
Northern Health says the community is currently served by one part-time physician while efforts continue to recruit a second family physician.
During the closure, residents requiring emergency care are being advised to call 911 in the event of a medical emergency.
The latest shutdown adds to ongoing service disruptions at the facility. Staffing shortages have affected several rural and northern emergency departments across British Columbia in recent years, as Northern Health continues to have difficulties recruiting and retaining physicians in smaller communities.
