HUDSON’S HOPE, B.C. - Demolition of Hudson’s Hope’s former Community Hall is expected to begin Friday, with the project anticipated to take about two weeks to complete, according to the District of Hudson’s Hope.
District officials are advising residents to stay clear of the work area throughout the demolition period as heavy equipment, demolition activities, and increased truck traffic will be present on site.
Before demolition work begins, the district says all identified hazardous materials requiring removal from the building were addressed by a qualified hazardous materials abatement contractor.
The district says the demolition contractor will use dust-control measures during the project to help minimize airborne dust and maintain safety around the site.
The former community hall, built in the 1960s, had reached a point where remediation was considered too costly.
Its removal is part of the district’s longer-term plan to replace the Community Hall and Hudson’s Hope Public Library with a new Multi Use Gathering Centre.
The proposed facility is intended to serve as a community hub focused on engagement, learning, culture, tourism, health and wellness, and recreation.
