Two people are in custody after a police chase that started just east of Dawson Creek. It ended about 30 minutes later with a destroyed police truck on Mason Road, near Highway 97.
Dawson Creek RCMP attempted a traffic stop around 2:30 Tuesday morning, near the Louisianna Pacific plant on Highway 97. A white pickup truck then fled the scene and headed toward Farmington.
Mounties pursued the vehicle to the Farmington Store where the truck turned around and headed back toward Dawson Creek.
Police alleged the pickup then stopped on Mason Road and reversed, full speed into the front of the police truck. Mounties allege it was an attempt to injure the two officers and disable their police vehicle.
A witness tells CJDC TV they heard at least 10 shots fired, however Dawson Creek RCMP were unable to confirm the direction of the bullets, pending their investigation. At least one bullet hole could be seen in the windshield of the police vehicle.
Dawson Creek RCMP have confirmed that no injuries were suffered by the two officers or the two suspects.
The suspect vehicle then fled the scene. Police say the vehicle backed into a wooded area. The suspects attempted to camouflage the pickup by putting blankets over the truck and then covered it with nearby weeds.
Officers searching the area, discovered the two suspects, still inside the camouflaged vehicle. A man and woman, both from the Northwest Territories were taken into custody.
Police say the VIN numbers had been removed from the vehicle and that it had been reported stolen. Police are recommending a number of charges including, flight from police, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and assaulting a police officer.
The pair cannot be named as they have yet to be formally charged. The Dawson Creek RCMP investigation continues.
