Residents of Old Fort can expect to see helicopter activity over the community on Tuesday as officials continue assessing the area impacted by the landslide earlier this spring.
The Peace River Regional District says a helicopter will be flying over the community on Tuesday to support ongoing geotechnical assessments.
The work was originally scheduled for Monday but was postponed and will go ahead Tuesday if weather conditions are favorable.
The aerial survey will collect detailed photographs and LiDAR data from above, helping experts assess ground conditions in and around the landslide area.
LiDAR is a laser-based mapping technology that measures the shape and elevation of the ground in detail.

The update comes after the PRRD cancelled Evacuation Order #1 and replaced it with Evacuation Alert #2.
The evacuation order was lifted after access to the community was restored, allowing residents and service providers to return to the area.
However, Evacuation Alert #2, along with the existing Evacuation Alert #1, remains in effect as a precaution due the current road surface being temporary.

Peace River North MLA Jordan Kealy is inviting Old Fort residents affected by the landslide to attend a town hall meeting Wednesday evening.
The meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the North Peace Cultural Centre’s multipurpose room in Fort St. John.
“This is just for the residents impacted, to get feedback and explore possible options of how I can try and help advocate,” Kealy said in a social media post.
The town hall was originally scheduled for May 13 but was postponed after Kealy became seriously ill.
Residents unable to attend the meeting can share their concerns by contacting Kealy’s office via email.
Residents seeking more information about returning home should consult the PRRD’s 2026 Old Fort Frequently Asked Questions document.
