A collision Thursday night south of Spirit River, Alberta has resulted in a pair of fatalities.
Spirit River RCMP said that just after 8:30pm, a head-on collision occurred on Highway 2, near Township Road 755.
Mounties said their initial investigation suggests that a pick-up truck was attempting to pass a semi. The pick-up then lost control and slammed into an on-coming SUV.
The driver of the SUV, a 46-year-old woman from Woking, was killed. Two children who were also in the SUV, aged 5 and 7, were taken to hospital. There is no word on their condition.
Police said the driver of the pick-up truck, a 39-year-old man from Wembley, also died.
The highway was closed for a period of time while police investigated the crash. It has since re-opened.
