Halfway River First Nation bringing employers into community to address job access barriers

Halfway River First Nation is bringing employment opportunities closer to home with its first job and career fair next month.

Blesson Joseph, the First Nation’s band manager, says distance and commuting are among the biggest challenges facing community members looking for work.

Joseph says bringing employers directly into the community will make it easier for members to connect with them without having to travel long distances into town.

The two-day event is scheduled for Nov. 16 and 17 at the Halfway River First Nation Community Hall. People from surrounding communities are also invited to attend.

Organizers hope the fair will help job seekers build connections with employers, explore career paths and identify opportunities for stable employment.

The event will also provide young people from across the region with an opportunity to connect with potential employers as they begin their careers.
