TOMSLAKE, B.C. - A detached garage was destroyed in a structure fire on Swan Lake Tuesday evening, but firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from spreading to a nearby barn.
The call came into the Tomslake & District Volunteer Fire Department at 6:20 p.m.
Fire crews responded with all available apparatus and personnel. The department said the remote location of the property resulted in a longer response time, with firefighters arriving about 15 minutes after receiving the call.
The department reported that all 12 of its members responded to the incident and that the Pouce Coupe Fire Department was called in through a mutual aid agreement to provide additional water and support.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to a detached garage, preventing it from spreading to a nearby barn.
Officials said the garage was a total loss, but no injuries were reported.
The fire department cleared the scene later in the evening after several hours of operations.
The Tomslake & District Volunteer Fire Department is thanking the Pouce Coupe Fire Department for its assistance during the response.
The cause of the fire has not been released.
