DAWSON CREEK, B.C. - The Dawson Creek and District Hospital Foundation has reached its $3 million fundraising goal for a new MRI machine that will serve patients across the Peace Region.

The milestone was celebrated Monday during a luncheon with donors and community supporters of the Foundation’s Clear Picture Campaign, which was launched to help bring MRI services closer to home for residents.

Foundation Chair Brette Madden said the achievement reflects the generosity of communities throughout the region.

“Everything we are able to accomplish is made possible through the generosity and support of our communities, and the MRI Campaign is an incredible example of that. Today is about celebrating community, partnership, and generosity,” Madden said.

The campaign crossed the finish line thanks to a final contribution from Saddle Hills County, which donated $300,000 toward the project.

Gerry Richard, Reeve for Saddle Hills County said access to health care extends beyond municipal and provincial boundaries, particularly in rural areas.

“Saddle Hills County is proud to contribute $300,000 to the Clear Picture Campaign and to invest in stronger regional health care for communities across the Peace,” Richard said. “Access to health care does not stop at municipal or provincial borders.”

The MRI will be housed in the replacement Dawson Creek and District Hospital, which is scheduled to open in 2027.

According to the Foundation, the addition of MRI services will allow patients to receive advanced medical imaging closer to home, reducing travel and improving access to care.

Northern Health will be responsible for staffing and maintaining the MRI once it is operational.

The Foundation says the project is the result of a collaboration between donors, the Foundation and Northern Health, and will support patients throughout the Peace Region for years to come.

The Foundation thanked donors for helping make the Clear Picture Campaign a success and for investing in the future of health care in northeastern B.C.
