RETRACTION: CJDC TV News was told by Fort St. John Court Services on Friday that Justin Sewell was ordered by a judge to register as a sex offender while being sentenced. Court Services has now informed us that the information we were given was incorrect.

Court Services added that Sewell has a hearing coming up to discuss whether Sewell must register as a sex offender. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Judge David Simpkin sentenced a Fort St. John veteranarian who pled quilty to sexual assault, to house arrest for two years less a day.

Justin Sewell avoided jail even though the prosecution was asking for 4.5 years in a federal prison.

Sewell pled guilty to sexual assault in 2022 after being charged with sexual assault, secretly observing or recording nudity and voyeurism.

The charges stemmed from an incident that occurred in Charlie Lake back in 2007. The case is under a publication ban to protect the identity of the victim.

Judge Simpkin’s sentence includes two years less a day for one count of sexual assault, six months for one count of secretly observing or recording nudity and three months for one count of secretly observing recording nudity in private place.

Judge Simpkin also ruled that Sewell’s sentence is to be served concurrently. Sewell must also submit a DNA sample.

Sewell’s sentencing began all the way back in July of 2023 and dragged on for over a year and a half because the judge kept allowing evidence to be submitted during the sentencing portion of the case.
